Many of my fondest memories from both childhood and adulthood are of being out in nature. Sitting on “my rock” in the middle of the creek in the woods behind my parents’ house and just listening to the wind in the trees and looking for fish. Sleeping under the stars for the first time with Jon. Walking barefoot through the grass in downtown Indy when I needed a little pick-me-up. Standing on the beach on St. George Island and watching dolphins swim past. The Grand Canyon. The Redwoods. The Tetons. I could go on and on. I feel most like me–and most alive–when I am soaking up the outdoors. An appreciation, joy, reverence for nature is something I hope to instill in Marshall. I figure you can never start too early, right? To celebrate his sixth week of life, we laid in the sun and let the grass tickle our feet. I think he enjoyed it. I sure did.
